“Scaffies” - what does it mean and how did we get there?

We needed to find a new name quickly, and reserve the Internet addresses, etc to have a new home for the community - while we first thought we make this a community effort to replace ‘kramtoading’ with something else, we quickly found out this was not practical.

So we asked friends and everyone we knew from the site for ideas for:
- a unique name,
- funny / humorous,
- can be used as noun and verb,
- and with some subtle reference to the topic :)

Out of about 50 ideas we finally picked Scaffies. We sure hope you like it, are OK with it, and can get used to it. After 10 years of Kramtoad, it will take some getting used to.

Scaffies is Scottish slang, loosely for “street sweeper” and derived from “scavengers”.
It can also refer to a fishing boat. The credit goes to Radgie :) - the master of all messed-up slang, and all the funny words which are so hard to understand in chat (“mate” and “naddies smushing” is easy in comparison ...) - yet soooo hot! (or “fit” as he would say)

We like the sound of it, and ‘scaffing’ / ‘getting scaffed’ might work well to replace ‘kramtoading’ eventually.

We all are always fishing (scavenging) for the odd buster/bustee to chat with or meet; and brushing/sweeping also relates to the treatment of nuts easily :)
